Rophine International School Sixth Form Campus

… Where Every Learner’s Journey Finds Its Path.

At Rophine International School, we are committed to nurturing every learner’s unique journey. With the launch of our brand-new Sixth Form Campus, we are proud to offer world-class academic pathways that cater to diverse learning styles, strengths, ambitions, and career aspirations.

For students and parents exploring post-16 education options, understanding the difference between A-Levels and BTEC qualifications can be pivotal in making the right choice. At Rophine Sixth Form Campus, we provide clear, expert guidance to help you determine which path aligns best with your future goals – whether that means pursuing a traditional academic route or an industry-focused, hands-on approach.

What Are A-Levels?

Advanced Level qualifications (A-Levels) are highly regarded, academically rigorous courses typically taken by students aged 16–19 over a two-year period. They provide deep, specialised knowledge across a wide range of subjects including Mathematics, Sciences, Business, Humanities, and the Arts.

At Rophine Sixth Form Campus, our A-Level programme is designed to prepare learners for university and beyond. The programme offers flexibility, enabling students to focus on the subjects they are most passionate about, while developing advanced analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.

We follow the Cambridge International structure, offering both AS and A2 Levels:

  • AS Levels (Year 12): Provide a broad foundation in a subject and are assessed through examinations at the end of Year 12. These are standalone qualifications and do not contribute to the final A-Level grade.
  • A2 Levels (Year 13): Build on AS-level knowledge and culminate in final examinations that assess the full course, leading to the award of the complete A-Level qualification.

Most students study three to four subjects in Year 12 and may streamline to three in Year 13, based on their university or career goals.

Why Choose A-Levels at Rophine?

  • Opportunity to specialise in 3–4 subjects tailored to your strengths and ambitions.
  • Strong focus on theoretical knowledge, analysis, and examinations.
  • Excellent preparation for traditional university degrees and academic careers.
  • Globally recognised by leading universities.

What Is a BTEC?

BTEC (Business and Technology Education Council) qualifications offer a practical, career-focused alternative to A-Levels. They combine theoretical learning with hands-on, real-world application through coursework, projects, and industry-related scenarios.

At Rophine International, we offer Level 3 BTEC programmes in Business and Sports – empowering students with the skills, knowledge, and experience required for higher education or immediate entry into the workforce.

BTEC International Level 3 Business – Pearson Qualifications

Our Business programme is designed to equip learners with a strong foundation in business principles and practical skills. Whether you aim to combine business with other areas of study, progress to higher education, or prepare for graduate employment, this programme is the ideal starting point.

Learners also benefit from our exclusive job-shadowing programme, offered to successful Year 12 students, giving them first-hand exposure to real business environments.

BTEC Level 3 in Sports

Our Sports programme extends beyond the pitch. It prepares learners for roles in sports management, facility operations, fitness training, coaching, and development. Students gain access to world-class facilities, such as Rophine Arena 1, and work with industry leaders, including Football Kenya Federation Director Francis Kimanzi, to gain invaluable professional insight.

Graduates are well-prepared for higher education in sports-related fields or to take up leadership roles in the sports industry globally.

Key Features of BTEC at Rophine:

  • Career-specific qualifications focused on employability and real-world application.
  • Assessment through projects, coursework, and practical activities.
  • Direct pathways to employment, apprenticeships, or degree-level study.
  • Recognised by universities and employers worldwide.

Admissions Process

Our admissions process ensures that each learner is placed on the pathway that suits them best. It includes:

  • Formal interview with the Principal to discuss the learner’s interests, career goals, and programme suitability.
  • Academic requirements:
  • Minimum of five (5) IGCSE passes at grades A–C*, including Mathematics and English.
  • KCSE learners require a minimum overall grade of C+ or higher.

Choosing the Right Path

The decision between A-Levels and BTEC depends on your learning style and future ambitions:

  • Choose A-Levels if you thrive in structured academic environments, enjoy theoretical study, and are preparing for university admission into competitive or research-oriented programmes.
  • Choose BTEC if you prefer a practical, project-based approach, enjoy hands-on assignments, and wish to develop industry-ready skills alongside academic knowledge.

At Rophine Sixth Form Campus, we take pride in offering both pathways, ensuring every learner finds a route that suits their strengths and aspirations.
