Embracing Competency-Based Assessment: Fostering Holistic Growth in Education
In today’s ever-evolving educational landscape, the shift towards competency-based assessment (C.B.A) marks a crucial moment in the pursuit of the academic development of the learner. With the upcoming Level 4 and 5 Project-Based Assessment slated to commence from July 1st to July 31st, 2024, we as the Rophine educators and learners are ready to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
These assessments are aligned with the Competency-Based Curriculum and embrace a predominantly formative approach. Unlike traditional assessments that focus solely on academic achievements, C.B.A. assessments go deeper, emphasizing the acquisition and application of a comprehensive set of competencies that encompass knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes essential for real-world success. It recognizes that education is about equipping learners with the tools and aptitudes necessary to navigate a dynamic global landscape. During these project-based assessments, learners will be evaluated on their cognitive domains, and challenged to demonstrate their ability to synthesize information, think critically, and solve complex problems in real-world contexts.
This is why the assessment is given one month, to ensure thoroughness and rigour in the evaluation process and also to provide learners with ample time to immerse themselves in the exercises. The outcomes of these assessments serve as more than just a measure of academic proficiency; they form an integral component of the learners’ overall attainments, which will shape their educational journey and lay the groundwork for future success through its all-round nurturing.
As we anticipate the commencement of these assessments, we extend our best wishes to our champions. May this forthcoming endeavour serve as a testament to their dedication, resilience, and capacity for growth.
